DENTON, Texas (April 13, 2018) -
Schyler Jones was not ready for her gymnastics career at Texas Woman's University to be over just yet as she propelled the Pioneers to a semifinal win at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships for a chance to compete for a team title in Saturday's finals by breaking a 21 year-old TWU program record in all-around with a 39.600 as the Pioneers earned first place in session two with a team season-high score of 195.700 Friday night inside Kitty Magee Arena.
Â
During the most outstanding performance during her Pioneer career, Jones set three career-highs with a 9.900 on bars, a 9.925 on beam, and a 9.925 on floor to lead her to the all-around title at the championships as the first TWU gymnast to do so since 2011 when Brittainy Johnson was the overall winner. The 39.600 by Jones outdid the 39.475 set by Kim Koenig back in 1997.
Â
Jones was not the only Pioneer on the evening to achieve career marks.
Mallory Moredock posted a career-best 9.950 on floor to tie a program high on the event and match the highest event score during both semifinals on Friday.
Hope Parkin achieved her best score on vault with a 9.700, while
Megan Gentry registered her best performance on floor with a 9.850.
Â
The Pioneers set a program-high 49.225 on beam to break the record of 49.200 set during the 2005 season.
Madison Dickson set the tone for the team by leading off with a career-best 9.800, while
Erin Alderman also recorded her career-high with a 9.875. The 49.225 is the highest score recorded by TWU on a single event this season and the third time the squad has broken the 49-point threshold in 2018.

Head Coach
Lisa Bowerman said, "I am extremely proud of the way the girls performed tonight. They competed with confidence, and this is the most important thing for us heading into tomorrow. Today was a great meet, but not our very best. We are excited to go leave it all out on the floor tomorrow for our fans and for our university."
Â
TWU now moves on to the finals alongside second-place finisher Cornell, as well as Lindenwood and Air Force, the top two teams from the first semifinal. The four teams square off Saturday at 7 p.m. with the winner being crowned the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Champion inside Kitty Magee Arena.
