DENTON, Texas (June 21, 2018) - Director of Athletics
Chalese Connors announced a pair of promotions Thursday within the Texas Woman's University Athletics Department for
Dr. Valerie Stevenson and
Kristen Meyers.
Â
Stevenson has been elevated to Associate Head Athletic Trainer after arriving at TWU in the Fall of 2006 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. In 2015, Stevenson along with Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine
Kris Ring and staff were named the Lone Star Conference Athletic Training Staff of the Year.
Â
"I want to thank
Kris Ring,
Chalese Connors, Dr. Monica Mendez-Grant, and Dr. Carine Feyten for this opportunity for me to continue to grow professionally here at Texas Woman's University," expressed Stevenson. "I am humbled and truly thankful that they all saw the value and commitment of the sports medicine staff and saw fit to place me in this new exciting role. I look forward to many more years as a Pioneer and providing the best medical care to our student athletes."
Â
Ring conveyed, "I am so thrilled to see Valerie promoted to this position. She has been an invaluable asset to TWU Athletics, and I'm very happy to see her hard work rewarded. Our student-athletes and staff alike benefit from her tremendous clinical skills and patient care."
Â
Meyers, now a full time Assistant Gymnastics Coach, began as a graduate assistant for the Pioneers in the Fall of 2015 and continued on to be a part time Assistant Coach two years later. She was named the 2018 NCAA Division II Co-Assistant Coach of the Year and was essential to the Pioneers back-to-back USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships in 2017 and 2018.
Â
"I could not be more excited about this opportunity, and I am so thankful for those who made it possible," said Meyers. "There is a lot of excitement surrounding our program, coming off of back-to-back National Championships, and I cannot wait to carry on the momentum. There is something super unique about TWU Gymnastics, and I am proud and humbled to be a part of this program."
Â
"I am beyond thrilled for Kristen to become a full-time member of our coaching staff. The work that she has done for our program over the past three years has made a huge impact helped us reach back-to-back National Championships," exclaimed Head Gymnastics Coach
Lisa Bowerman.
Â
"The opportunity to have her with us moving into the future will help us continue to reach even greater success. Kristen is one of the most hard-working and loyal people that I have ever known, and I know that her impact will continue to be felt in big ways in this new role. I am grateful to the TWU administration for the support they have shown our program through the addition of this position. I know that there are even bigger things in store for TWU Gymnastics in the future," Bowerman concluded.
