– After helping the Pioneers to a 3-1 series win at #2 West Texas A&M over the weekend, TWU sophomore outfielder
Alyssa Galaz was named the Lone Star Conference Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of Apr. 21-26.
Galaz led the Pioneers with three home runs, eight RBI, six runs and a 1.143 slugging percentage in the four games against the Lady Buffs. She hit two home runs and drove in five runs in game one of the series including the game-winning run in a 13-10 win to lock up the second seed for TWU in this week's 2015 Lone Star Conference Championship. Galaz also hit a three-run home run in a 4-2 game three win. In the month of April, Galaz led the Pioneers to a 13-2-1 record with a team-best .479 average, 23 hits, six home runs, 20 RBI, 19 runs and a .938 slugging percentage.
TWU closed out the regular season 27-19-2 overall and 19-7-2 in the Lone Star Conference. The Pioneers finished second in the final LSC regular season standings and will receive a bye in the opening round of the LSC Championship tournament held at West Texas A&M on May 1-2. TWU will face the winner of Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce in the semifinals on Friday, May 1, at 4:00 p.m. at Schaeffer Park.
