DENTON, Texas (March 13, 2024) – After a dual meet week, the Texas Woman's gymnastics team celebrated two gymnasts honored for Midwest Independent Conference Weekly Awards.
Brooke Ferrari received the MIC Performance of the Week Award this week. On Sunday, March 10 at the NC State Quad Meet, Ferrari scored a 9.925 on the bars, which was a career high mark for Ferrari and also tied the TWU individual program record on bars. With the 9.925, Ferrari tied for the event title at NC State.
In the other meet of the week for TWU, Ferrari also led TWU on bars at the Purple and Gold Podium Challenge with a 9.875.
"I am thrilled for Brooke to receive the Performance of the Week award," TWU Head Coach
Lisa Bowerman said. "Brooke's bars routine is extremely unique and impressive. The work she has put in this year in particular on the little details is really paying off, and it's exciting to see her being rewarded for that!"
After scoring high in vault and bars and debuting on beam,
Kaitlyn Hoiland was named the MIC Newcomer of the Week. Hoiland, who transferred to TWU this season, has been a mainstay as the anchor on vault and bars. At the Purple and Gold Podium Challenge on March 8, 2024, Hoiland scored a 9.775 on vault and a 9.850 on bars – the 9.850 tied for ninth at the meet. Then, on Sunday, March 10 at the NC State Quad Meet, Hoiland scored a 9.725 on vault and a 9.850 on bars, which tied for seventh. At NC State, Hoiland also debuted for the first time in her career on beam and scored a 9.725.
"Kaitlyn has been a strong and steady force on vault and bars throughout this entire first season at TWU," Hoiland said. "Getting to see her compete beam for the first time in her college career and to score a 9.725 on her first routine ever in a competition line-up as a senior was something I will never forget. She works hard every single day for her team, and she could not be more deserving of this award!"
This marks the Pioneers' tenth and eleventh MIC Weekly Awards this season.
