BATON ROUGE, La. (March 8, 2024) – The Texas Woman's gymnastics team competed at the Purple and Gold Podium Challenge in Baton Rouge, La. On Friday night against LSU, George Washington and Auburn.
The Pioneers closed the meet with a 194.725.
TWU started the night out on floor, where they recorded a 48.925.
Daisy Woodring led TWU on the floor with a 9.850, while
Sophie Hernandez placed narrowly behind with a 9.800.
Emma Brkljacic scored a 9.775 in the fourth spot for TWU. In the second and third spots respectively, both
Madeline Gose and
Steelie King scored 9.750s, while
Emily Six was the Pioneers' leadoff with a 9.725.
After floor, the Pioneers rotated over to vault and scored a 48.725 in the second rotation. Six led-off for TWU and set the tone with a 9.750, which marked a season high for Six. In the second spot,
Sophia Isbell scored a 9.700. Woodring topped the leaderboard for TWU on the vault as well, bringing over her high energy from floor. She scored a 9.825 for the Pioneers.
Kaitlyn Hoiland provided a strong anchor score of 9.775.
For their third rotation, TWU competed on the uneven bars and scored their highest event total of the day on the bars – a 48.975.
Brooke Ferrari continued her strong sophomore season on bars, scoring a season high 9.875 to lead TWU. In the anchor spot, Hoiland closed bars with an exclamation point for TWU, scoring a 9.850.
Kami Zarlengo hit a 9.775 in the second spot, and
Aaliyah Gilmore followed her in the third spot with a 9.750.
Caroline Bowns wrapped up the top five scores with a 9.725.
The Pioneers' final rotation of the day was the balance beam, where they scored a 48.100. On the beam,
Steelie King led the Pioneers with a 9.750. Woodring and Six both scored 9.725s to complete the top three for TWU on the apparatus.
LSU won the meet with a 198.425. Auburn scored a 197.050, while George Washington scored a 195.100.
TWU will be back in action on Sunday, March 10 at a quad meet hosted by NC State, which will feature Penn State, Penn, NC State and TWU. The meet is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. CST.
