Dear Basketball,

From the first moment I picked up a ball, I knew there was something different about this game. What started as a simple love turned into a lifelong journey—one filled with challenges, setbacks, lessons and unforgettable moments. As I reflect on everything basketball has given me, I can't help but be overwhelmed with gratitude.

I wasn't the tallest, the strongest, or the flashiest. I didn't have the spotlight or the eye-popping stats. I was the underdog, but I never let that define me. I showed up every day with heart, hustle and the desire to be the best version of myself—not just for me, but for my teammates and everyone who believed in me. I cheered the loudest for others, celebrated their wins like they were my own, and gave everything I had every time I stepped on the court.

The journey wasn't always easy. There were days of doubt, nights of frustration, moments when the weight felt unbearable, injuries, losses, getting overlooked—it all hurt, but those struggles shaped me. They pushed me to dig deeper, to fight harder, and to never lose sight of why I started. Through the highs and lows, basketball introduced me to my true circle—people who stood by me, not because of what I did on the court, but because of who I was off of it.

To my family, especially my parents—thank you. You have been my rock through every chapter. From the early morning practices to the long drives home after tough games, your unwavering support, your love, and your belief in me kept me going. You saw something in me even when I couldn't see it in myself. I will never be able to thank you enough for the sacrifices you made so I could chase this dream.

This game has taught me so much more than how to shoot, dribble or defend. It's taught me resilience, leadership, humility and how to lift others up. Now, it's my turn to give back. I want to take every lesson, every scar, every ounce of knowledge I've gained and pour it into the next generation. I want young athletes to feel seen, supported and inspired. I want their experience to be filled with joy, growth and a sense of belonging—because that's what basketball gave me.

This isn't a goodbye. Basketball will always be a part of who I am. Whether I'm coaching, mentoring, or simply watching from the stands, the love never fades. I'm forever grateful for every moment, every person every lesson. Thank you, basketball—for shaping me into the person I am today.

With all my heart,
Gionna ("G")
