Senior Kelsey Nixon has been selected as the Pioneer of the Week for the week of Saturday, Mar. 21 - Friday, Mar. 27, 2009.

Nixon received the esteemed P.O.W. title from the TWU gymnastics coaching staff because, at the 2009 MIC Conference Championship meet on Saturday, Mar. 21, she unexpectedly stepped into the Pioneers' vault lineup and delivered a season-high 9.575 vault. 

"That was big for both Kelsey and our team," said TWU head coach Frank Kudlac of Nixon's performance at the conference meet. "Kelsey has battled injuries all season long, but, to her credit, she's stayed ready. She came through when we needed her."

Kudlac also praised Nixon's work ethic and leadership. 

"Kelsey never stops working," he stated. "Whether it's in practice, in the weight room, or in her academics. She is a very focused and determined young lady. That definitely influences her teammates in a positive way."
