Matthew DeGrandpre, a former college gymnast, joined the TWU Gymnastics program in June 2022.
In 2024, DeGrandpre assisted in leading the Pioneers to a historical season, where they placed second in the USAG National Championship after advancing to the finals for the third straight year. During the year, the Pioneers had the highest team score in a season opener, highest team score in a home opener, largest home crowd, highest score on floor and highest NQS.
DeGrandpre competed in gymnastics at Springfield College from September 2016 to May 2020. During his time at Springfield, his main events included vault, pommel horse and floor exercise. He scored a career-high 12.650 on the floor exercise, an 11.800 on the pommel horse and an 11.500 on vault. He was also named a USAG Academic All-American.
In May 2020, he graduated from Springfield with a Bachelor of Science in Movement and Sports Studies with a concentration in physical and health education. Following graduation, DeGrandpre remained at Springfield and worked as a graduate assistant for the Men's Gymnastics team. He helped coordinate practices, plan routines, recruit athletes, and contributed to the overall success of the program. In 2022, DeGrandpre helped guide the Springfield team to their first program appearance in the NCAA National Collegiate Championships. They became the first Division III program to ever compete in the NCAA National Collegiate Championships. The Springfield coaching staff, including DeGrandpre, were named the ECAC Coaching Staff of the Year.
While serving as a graduate assistant, DeGrandpre earned his Masters of Education in Physical Education with a concentration in athletic administration.
DeGrandpre also holds five years of experience coaching girls' gymnastics at Roots Gymnastics Center in Westfield, Massachusetts. As an assistant team coach, he helped conduct practice sessions for level 3-10 and xcel teams, maintained equipment, and spotted gymnasts through various skill developments.
While at Springfield, DeGrandpre served as an adjunct professor, teaching Exploring Wellness Thru Movement and Education Gymnastics.
He has expereince leading gymnastics and operating facilities at the following summer camps: Lake Murray Summer Camp (2021), Navy Sports Camp (2017-18), and United States Gymnastics Training Center (2014-17).
DeGrandpre is a National Cardholder for the National Gymnastics Judges Association. He is affiliated with USAG Gymnastics and MAHPERD.
