KINGSVILLE, Texas (Jan. 7) – Three TWU players scored in double-figures as the Pioneers captured a 57-43 road win at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Wednesday night. With the win, TWU improved to 9-5 on the season and 2-1 in the Lone Star Conference.

Emily Spector scored a game-high 16 points while sophomore
Erin Maxwell chipped in 13 points off the Pioneers' bench and senior
Ria Pateraki added 12 points for TWU. Spector also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds while Maxwell cleared seven boards and blocked four shots.
Both teams traded baskets early in the first half before the Pioneers turned an 8-7 lead into a 16-7 advantage with an 8-0 run. TWU pushed the lead to 10 points at 5:28 mark and then used another 6-3 run in the final minutes to take a 26-15 halftime lead.
The Pioneers maintained a 10-point lead for the majority of the second half before putting the game out of reach for TAMUK with a 10-0 run. TWU took a 48-28 lead at 6:08 mark before winning by 14 points.
For the third straight game, the Pioneers outrebounded their opponent, 52-28, with 23 of them coming on the offensive glass. TWU also outscored the Javelinas 42-22 in the paint.
"We did a good job of getting the ball inside," said TWU head coach
Beth Jillson. "I was very pleased with our rebounding especially our offensive boards which led to 19 second-chance points. It's always good to get a conference win on the road."
The Pioneers will return to action when they host Angelo State this Saturday, Jan. 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena. The first 200 fans will receive a free "LET'S GO T-DUB!" t-shirt courtesy of the Forum at Denton Station.
