Jimenez’s Career Day Not Enough as Soccer Falls at A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE, Texas (Oct. 15) – TWU freshman goalkeeper Samantha Jimenez came off the bench and made a career-high 12 saves but it wasn't enough as the Pioneers fell at Texas A&M-Commerce, 4-1.  TWU is now 6-5-2 on the season and 2-3-1 in the Lone Star Conference.

Jimenez entered the game in the 23rd minute after the Lions scored their first three goals and stopped all 12 shots she faced.  The only goal she gave up was on a penalty kick in the second half.

Texas A&M-Commerce found the net three times early in the first half and led 3-0 at the break.  The Lions' Savannah Grasser scored in the ninth minute and Ashley Phillips made it 2-0 in the 17th minute.  Grasser scored her second goal of the day in the 22nd minute to make it 3-0.

The Pioneers scored their only goal early in the second half.  Freshman Brittany Jones found the net in the 56th minute to make it 3-1.  It's her second goal of the season.  A&M-Commerce scored its fourth goal on a penalty kick in the 80th minute.  Grasser took the PK and found the net for the third time to make it 4-1.

"We struggled early in the game and they took advantage with three early goals," said TWU head coach Babak Abouzar.  "We played much better in the second half but we already dug ourselves a big hole.  Jimenez came in played an amazing game.  This her first collegiate game and she made some terrific saves.  The only goal she gave up was on a PK."

The Lions finished the game with a 25-11 advantage in shots and 20-6 advantage in shots on goal.  Texas A&M-Commerce also had 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
