DENTON, Texas (Oct. 9) – The Pioneers extended their winning streak to six with a sweep over visiting Texas A&M-Commerce, 25-14, 25-16, and 25-21. With the win TWU improved to 14-3 on the season and 6-1 in the Lone Star Conference.

Hillary Shaffer led the game with 11 kills while junior
Sara Oxford added nine kills and junior
Mallory Kuechle chipped in eight kills. Oxford led the Pioneers with a .562 hitting percentage while Shaffer finished with a .400 hitting percentage. Senior

Makayla Mayfield was the leader in digs (12) and service aces (5).
The Pioneers started the first set with five straight points and never looked back as they captured an 11-point win. TWU posted a .286 hitting percentage in the set with nine kills on 21 attempts and just three errors.
The Pioneers again jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second and led 8-2 before Texas A&M-Commerce scored three straight points. Leading, 10-7, TWU used a 6-1 run to make it an eight-point lead. The Pioneers led by as many as 10 points before settling for a nine-point win.
Both teams split the first few points in the third before TWU scored four straight points to take a 6-2 lead. The Lions answered with four points of their own to even the score. With the scored tied at 10-10 the Pioneers went on a 6-1 run to take a five-point lead. Texas A&M-Commerce rallied late to cut the deficit to two points, 21-19, but a 4-2 run by TWU ended the game.
The pioneers finished the game with a .222 hitting percentage and nine service aces.
"We had a good performance on both offense and defense," said TWU head coach
Shelly Barberee. "We served really well, especially Makayla with five service aces. Offensively we had a good hitting percentage and our middles hit the ball well."
The Pioneers will return to action when they host a non-conference game on Tuesday, Oct. 20 against Oklahoma Baptist. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena.
