Zwilling’s first career-goal a game-winner

DENTON, Texas (Oct. 16, 2016) – Rachel Peters found Cara Zwilling in front of the goal with 16 seconds remaining in the contest for a 1-0 victory for Texas Woman's University over Midwestern State Sunday afternoon on TWU Soccer Field during the annual "Kick for a Cure" game.

Zwilling's goal was her first as a Pioneer while Peters notched her team-leading third assist on the season. Samantha Jimenez tallied her sixth shutout of the year while collecting five saves.

The Mustangs (7-5-2, 4-4-0 LSC) outshot the Pioneers (7-6-1, 3-5-0 LSC) 11-to-8 and had five shots on goal compared to three from TWU.

During the 64th minute, the Mustangs saw their best chance of scoring as Jimenez crept away from the goal to help defend, but the shot was unsuccessful. A shot by Gaby Larson four minutes later was on target, but MSU's goalkeeper jumped high for the save to keep the game scoreless.

Maddie Nolton sent a free kick right at the goal in the 80th minute, but her attempt was caught by the keeper. The Mustangs made a try on the next trip down the field, but Jimenez scrambled out to block the ball with her body.

The win for the Pioneers was of high importance as six of the seven teams within the Lone Star Conference advance to the conference tournament. TWU now sits in fifth place, one game behind MSU for fourth and two ahead of Eastern New Mexico for the final spot in the tournament. Four games remain on the regular schedule for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers are on the road next week as they travel to Eastern New Mexico Friday for a match at 8 p.m. CST and West Texas A&M Saturday at 1 p.m.
