Bice Puts TWU in NCAA South Central 2 Regional Championship Game

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (May 6) – TWU junior pitcher Tori Bice tossed a two-hit shutout to help the Pioneers to a 3-0 win over Angelo State in eight innings and advance to the NCAA South Central 2 Regional Championship game.

It was a pitcher's duel through seven innings between Bice and ASU's Brandy Marlett and the game was sent into extra innings scoreless.  Bice held the Rambelles hitless through the first four innings before allowing a lead-off hit in the fifth.  She also recorded 10 straight outs after allowing two base runners in the first inning on a walk and hit batter.

"That was an old school game that I like, a pitching duel," said TWU head coach Genny Stidham.  "In the fifth inning I looked at the scoreboard we had two hits and they had none even though they hit the ball hard.  It could have gone either way but at the end we pulled it out.  Very proud of that win.  Very proud of my pitcher."

After seven scoreless innings senior Tealey Farquhar started the top of the eighth inning with bunt single and moved to second on a ground out.  After a strikeout and an intentional walk, freshman Lindy Kennedy singled to right field with two outs for the go ahead RBI.  With runners on second and third, junior Katy Stephens followed with a single to left center to bring home two more runs and make it 3-0.

Bice completed the shutout with a pair of popups, walk and a ground out in the bottom of the eighth to pick up her 18th win of the season.  She allowed two hits and three walks while striking out seven batters.

"We were preparing for a game like this all season," said Bice.  "My team got my back on defense and made good plays.  We are in good spot going into the championship game tomorrow.  We need to come back and play like we did these two days."

The Pioneers improved to 34-22 on the season will now advance to Saturday's Regional final for the second time in school history. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
