Last meeting amongst the Pioneers and Lions
SAN ANGELO, Texas (Nov. 6, 2015) –The TWU soccer team fell to Texas A&M-Commerce, 1-0, in the 2015 Lone Star Conference Championship semifinals. The Pioneers end their season with an 11-7-2 overall record.
Both teams played to a scoreless opening 45 minutes, with each getting off four shots. The Pioneers had couple of opportunities to score in the first half but were unable to find the net. TWU's best opportunity came in the 32nd minute when freshman
Lauren Neely's shot hit the far post and bounced back into goalie's hands.
The Lions scored the only goal of the game three minutes into the second half. TAMUC's Vickey Back scored on a shot to the near post off a volley at 48:42 mark. The Pioneers had an opportunity to tie the game in the 87th minute but back-to-back shots by senior
Natalia Diaz inside the box were blocked by the defense.
Season-high in shot attempts cannot outdo ENMU in 2-0 loss
COMMERCE, Texas (Sept. 25, 2016) – None of the season-high 27 shot attempts by Texas Woman's University made their way into the goal in a 2-0 loss to Eastern New Mexico Sunday afternoon in a game moved to Lion Soccer Field on the campus of Texas A&M-Commerce.
In addition to the new season-high in shots, the Pioneers (4-3, 0-2 LSC) held the Greyhounds (2-4-1, 1-1-0) to 10 shots of their own, also a season-best. The Pioneer compiled 11 corners compared to two from ENMU.
The weather was the determining factor in the contest time and site being changed. Moving the time up one hour from the original start was made in hopes of avoiding a late afternoon shower, but after rain drenched the TWU Soccer Field before noon to make it unplayable, it was determined that the game needed to be moved to a neutral site.
Within the first minute of the game, each team tried a corner kick, and in the opening 10 minutes TWU attempted five shots while ENMU tallied two. The Greyhounds earned their first score on a penalty kick during the 28th minute. Shots by
Lauren Bradford,
Chelsea Martin, Hannan Schneider and
Tivona Tinsley all proved unsuccessful in the five minutes before the half.
ENMU connected again nine minutes into the second half for a 2-0 advantage. In a three-minute span beginning in the 57th minute, the Pioneers attempted three shots and two headers but were unable to connect. Another slew of attempts by TWU in the final minutes were futile as the Greyhounds kept the Pioneers scoreless.
