ODESSA, Texas (Oct. 28, 2017) -
Maddi Nolton scored her first career hat trick, and
Chelsea Martin tied a Texas Woman's University program record with three assists in a 7-2 win over UT Permian Basin Sunday afternoon at UTPB Turf Field during the final regular season game of 2017.
Â
Jazmine Navarro,
Hannah Schneider,
Natalie Gibbs and
Haley Ward joined Nolton in the scoring frenzy while
Lauren Bradford and Maraget Torres united with Martin by each dishing out an assist. The seven team goals were the most since TWU scored six at Northwestern Oklahoma State during the 2012 season, and a trio of goals by a single Pioneer last occurred in 2014 on an effort by
Gaby Larson. Martin equaled the TWU assist record posted by Navarro this season against Southern Nazarene.
Â
Navarro provided the lone first half goal in the 43
rd minute on a tip into an open net on an assist by Bradford. Nolton connected on a pair of penalty kicks in a seven-minute time span in the second half to put TWU up 3-0.
Â
In the 63
rd minute, Schneider took a low cross from Martin and sent the ball into the low post for another score. Three minutes later, Martin found Gibbs for the same result and a 5-0 Pioneer advantage.
Â
Torres discovered Ward on a break down the middle of the field for score in the 77
th minute before the Falcons converted a penalty kick 27 seconds later for the first UTPB score of the contest.
Â
With less than four minutes to play, Martin booted a cross from the right side towards Nolton for a 7-1 lead. The Falcons then scored on a penalty kick with just over a minute remaining.

Head Coach
Babak Abouzar said, "The chances we created and finished were top notch. We fine-tuned some things that we wanted to improve on in practice yesterday and the team executed them very well. I'm excited to see what our team can do headed into the conference tournament this week."
Â
The Pioneers earned the sixth seed in the Lone Star Conference Tournament and will travel to number-three seed West Texas A&M for a Wednesday first round matchup at 7 p.m.
