Softball raises win streak to 10

DENTON, Texas (March 18, 2017) - Texas Woman's University completed the three-game sweep of Eastern New Mexico Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Park with a 10-2 five-inning win over the Greyhounds to increase TWU's win streak to 10 games.

The Pioneers (19-10, 9-5 LSC) totaled 10 hits on the day compared to four from the Greyhounds. Nicole Nordie, Katy Stephens and Alexis Elizondo notched two hits each while Tylia Sylestine, Tori Bice, Abby Walker and Tara Solomon tallied one apiece.

ENMU (13-22, 6-9 LSC) recorded hit number one in the first inning with a single that sailed over Puempel's glove and down the right field line. An RBI single to right field brought in the run to give the Greyhounds an early 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first, Stephens sent a shot past third base for a double and Puempel made her way to second by way of a walk and wild pitch. Sylestine doubled to right center to score the runners, and a left field single by Bice added another for a 3-1 TWU lead. With the bases loaded, Morgan Harrison drew walk followed by a Solomon RBI single to left field. Walker slipped in at home on another wild pitch, and a Nordie single up the lead to 6-1.

TWU pieced together another offensive inning in the second beginning with a Stephens single to left field. Puempel reached on an error and Bice was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Elizondo singled up the middle to score two Pioneers, and Walker followed with a shot down the left field line to grow the lead to 10-1.

ENMU's Erikka Burke homered to right center in the third to cut the deficit to 10-2, but the Greyhounds were unable to put another run on the board to wrap up the game after the top of the fifth.

Walker (9-3) registered the win with four hits and five strikeouts.

The Pioneers head to Oklahoma Christian Tuesday for a nonconference doubleheader at 4 p.m.
