Pioneers sweep last home series of the season

DENTON, Texas (April 22, 2017) – Texas Woman's University added two wins to their conference record on senior day against UT-Permian Basin with eight seniors being honored along with assistant coach Jamie Kerner Saturday at Pioneer Field.

Game two was resumed in the third inning after being halted Friday night due to lightning. The Pioneers won in by run-rule in the fifth by a score of 10-2. UTPB (9-40, 5-22) came out swinging in the top of the third and plated one run, and TWU (31-16, 17-9) answered in the bottom of the inning scoring twice and running the score up to 9-3.  In the top of the fourth, the Falcons scored for the last time of the game before being run-ruled in the bottom of the fifth with a walk-off hit by Nicole Nordie.
 
Nordie went three-for-three in the game and scored two runs and tallied three RBI. Tara Solomon and Logan Polasek were both perfect at the plate and scoring on their hits.
 
Hailey Dixon (8-1) got the win and pitched 3.1 innings by facing 14 batters and allowing two runs. Tori Bice was also in the circle and pitched 1.2 innings and only allowed one hit.

The Pioneers came out with hot hands and hot bats in the first inning holding the Falcons scoreless and gaining three runs. Nordie, Katy Stephens and Bice scored before moving to the second inning where both teams went scoreless. In the third, UTPB tallied one run and TWU's Tylia Sylestine homered for the eighth time this season.
 
The Falcons scored once in the fifth and the Pioneers finished off the game in another run-rule by scoring five runs on five hits in the sixth. Nordie tripled and brought in Polasek and Parnell who each had singled. Nordie scored on Hazel Puempel's sacrifice bunt, and Bice doubled to bring in Dixon and Puempel to end the game.
 
Katie Hickey (2-1) earned the win in the circle by pitching three innings. Abby Walker tallied the save by closing out the final two innings.
 
TWU will travel to Texas-A&M Commerce April 28 at 5 p.m. in a doubleheader and a single game April 29 at 1 p.m.
