DENTON, Texas (Sept. 19, 2017) - Texas Woman's University volleyball registered its first sweep of a conference opponent and win streak in 2017 with a victory over Texas A&M-Commerce Tuesday night inside Kitty Magee Arena.
Â
In the 3-0 win (25-17, 25-17, 25-23),
Bailey French had a game and career-high 31 digs to tally the highest total in a three-set match in the LSC this year and the eighth-highest output in NCAA Division II.
Briley Cole-Lewis notched a game-high 10 kills to go along with five blocks,
Katy Ranes handed out a game-high 37 assists, and
Haley Collins totaled the most blocks in the match with six.
Â
A 5-5 tie in set one became a 9-5 Pioneer lead on two Lion attack errors and a pair of
Courtney Noel kills. TWU reeled off a 5-0 run that included kills by
Miri Shade and Cole-Lewis to go up 17-10. An ace by
Erin Jones, block by Noel and Ranes, and a Noel kill down the line gave the Pioneers a double-digit lead at 22-12 before Shade found the end line on a kill for the win.
Â
Collins and Cole-Lewis started off set two with a block, and Noel and Ranes teamed up for another for a 6-4 Pioneer lead. With the game tied at 8-8, A&M-Commerce committed an attack error and kills ensued by Collins,
Kerstin Jenkins, Ranes and Shade to put TWU up 13-8. A Ranes service ace followed kills by Cole-Lewis to the middle and back corner on the sideline to extend the lead to 17-9, and a solo block by Collins in the middle stopped a Lion attack for the last point.
Â
A&M-Commerce came to play after the intermission and jumped to a 9-4 lead. A Noel kill on a slide brought the set to an even 16-16, and Shade placed a kill between two Lion back row defenders at 20-20. A kill by Cole-Lewis and block alongside Collins put TWU up 23-21, and Cole-Lewis notched another point on an attack off of a block before Jenkins tallied the final kill of the night.

Head Coach
Jeff Huebner said, "Today was a really good example of what discipline and focus can do.
Bailey French continues to be lights out for us, and Katy did a great job of spreading the offense out. Haley and Briley had great performances, and we had timely swings from Kerstin and Miri."
