Softball grabs series sweep at UTPB

ODESSA, Texas (April 21, 2018) - Texas Woman's University softball wrapped up their final Lone Star Conference road trip with a sweep of UT Permian Basin on an 8-1 win Saturday at UTPB Park.

A Lindy Kennedy single to right field scored Cheyenne Mahy in the second before Kennedy made it around for a 2-0 TWU lead. Mahy then went to work in the circle by striking out three straight in the bottom of the frame.

Tara Solomon hit a double to left center in the third to score Hazel Puempel, and Tylia Sylestine recorded a home run to put the Pioneers up 4-0.

A wild pitch by the Falcons in the fourth allowed Melanie Stephens to score, and an RBI double from Kennedy in the next inning put TWU ahead, 6-0. UTPB closed to within five run in the fifth, but a home run by Mahy in the seventh helped TWU to the series sweep.

Mahy (12-6) earned the win with a walk and seven strikeouts.

Head Coach Genny Stidham said, "Mahy was outstanding this weekend, and Jordan had a great weekend behind the plate. I liked the solid defense and 14 hits isn't that bad."

The Pioneers conclude the regular season next weekend against Texas A&M-Commerce.
