TWU sweeps Cameron to set up showdown with UAFS

DENTON, Texas (Nov. 15, 2019) – TWU won its third consecutive Lone Star Conference match on Friday night after sweeping Cameron 25-14, 25-16, 25-22.

Senior Courtney Noel led the Pioneers with 13 kills on the evening and eclipsed 1,000 career kills. Senior Maggie Pyles collected four aces, while senior Katy Ranes' only ace of the night put her at 100 career aces.

"Our players kicked off senior weekend the right way," head coach Jeff Huebner said. "Offensively we did a great job, led by Katy [Ranes] and Bailey [French], but really it was our serve receive that makes us so tough. When we serve and pass well, our offense can be really tricky."

On the defensive side, French and Pyles led the back row with 12 digs. Sophomore Trixie Oche also continued her impressive season with nine blocks and nine kills.

"I think Trixie's development in the past two weeks as a blocker has been critical to our improvement," Huebner said. "She is a steady worker and consistently grinds out little improvements. Tonight, it came together in a big way for her."

The Pioneers finished with 12 blocks and hit an efficient .318 on the night, led by a .464 hitting percentage from Noel and a .438 hitting percentage from redshirt freshman Addison Mulroney

"Again, it's just serve and pass for us," Huebner said. "When we outplay teams in first contact skills, we give ourselves a chance against any team in the league."

TWU wraps up the regular season with Senior Day on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Arkansas-Fort Smith (23-5, 16-1), who is receiving votes for the Top 25 poll.
