OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 9, 2019) —TWU Softball opened play at the OC/UCO Invitational on Saturday.
The Pioneers fell to Rogers State 10-0 behind a one-hit shutout from pitcher Andrea Morales to start the day.
Paige Tamayo was the only Pioneer to reach base with a double in the fifth inning, ending Morales' bid for a perfect game.
TWU bounced back with a better performance in the nightcap against Northeastern State, falling to the Riverhawks, 2-1, on a walk-off hit.
Bailey Turner kept the Pioneers in the ballgame from the circle, going 6.1 innings, striking out four while allowing only one earned run.
"Bailey did a great job finishing Game 1 and going the distance in Game 2," head coach
Amber Barker said. "Unfortunately, we didn't have any offensive production in either game."
Tamayo,
Tara Solomon,
Tylia Sylestine and
Sydney Johnson each registered a hit with Johnson posting the team's only RBI with a sacrifice fly in the second inning.
"We're going to need to find out who we are as a team and do so pretty quickly, then remain consistent when we do figure it out," Barker added. "We're still trying to put all aspects of the game together: offensively, defensively and in the circle."
The Pioneers will get set to face Washburn and co-host Central Oklahoma tomorrow on Day 2 of the OC/UCO Invitational.
