DENTON (March 30, 2019) — A two-run blast to right field from
Paige Tamayo capped a five-run afternoon for the Texas Woman's Pioneers who completed a series sweep of the UT Permian Basin Falcons, winning 5-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Like Game 1 in the series, the Falcons struck first with a run in the first inning. But the Pioneers would quickly respond in the bottom of the inning with
Bailey Turner connecting on an RBI double to left field, scoring Tamayo who finished the game 4-for-4 at the plate.
"She was seeing the ball really well," head coach
Amber Barker said of Tamayo's performance at the plate. "It didn't matter what the pitcher threw, she was zoned in and focused."
The freshman was one triple shy from hitting for the cycle as the Pioneers improve to 5-4 at home.
An RBI single from
Sydney Johnson, followed by an RBI single from
Tara Solomon, gave the Pioneers a two-run lead in the fifth.
"The players [did] a great job," Barker added. "They really came to play this weekend."
In the circle, Turner picked up her second win of the series, tossing a complete game, allowing no earned runs on three hits, striking out four.
TWU will head on the road next week for a three-game series against Texas A&M-Commerce beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.
