FRISCO, Texas (March 8, 2019) — Texas Woman's season ended on Friday with an 85-57 loss to Angelo State, in the opening round of the 2019 Lone Star Conference Championship.
"Credit Angelo State. I thought they did an incredible job," Jillson said. "We got down early and it's hard to recover against a good team like that."
Led by
Carissa Moody's 12th double-double of the season – 10 points and 15 rebounds – and
Ma'K'La Woods' team-high 12 points, the Pioneers struggled early as the Rambelles jumped to a 27-10 lead in the first quarter.
"I know if I'm not scoring, I need to be doing something else for the team," Moody said postgame. "I try to rebound as best as I can and just keep playing hard."
In the final game of her career, senior
KJ Stastny dropped five of her eight points in the fourth quarter while freshman
Macy Wilkerson added nine points off the bench in her first postseason appearance.
"This (loss) leaves a bad taste in our mouth," Jillson added. "But this certainly doesn't define us. I am proud of these girls."
The Pioneers finished the year with a record of 10-19 overall, clinching a berth in the Lone Star Conference Championship for the 11th year in a row.
"To be able to have all those younger players gain the experience, especially in a lot of close game situations," Jillson said. "It's just going to benefit our team moving forward."
With the junior tandem of Moody and Archer returning next season, the Pioneers already have their sights on next season.
