TYLER, Texas -
Paige Tamayo and
Tyler Greene both turned in two-hit days, but the Texas Woman's University softball team (5-13, 0-4 Lone Star Conference) was unable to match the offensive firepower of No. 3 UT Tyler (16-0, 4-0) on Sunday, falling 4-2 and 9-1 to the Patriots at Suddenlink Field.
The Patriots plated four runs in the first inning of the opener to jump out to an early lead. However, after the rocky start, starter
Bailey Turner settled in and only allowed two more hits down the stretch. TWU saw its first baserunners in the top of the fifth inning, but an untimely interference call ended the TWU threat.
The Pioneers broke through in the sixth on a solo shot by Tamayo, and added another run in the seventh on an RBI grounder, but TWU was unable to close the gap further and the Patriots held on for the win in the opener.
The nightcap saw the Pioneers open scoring on an RBI double by Greene in the second, but the Patriots broke through with three runs in the third, one more in the fourth, and closed the game with five in the fifth to capture the 9-1 win.
TWU returns to action on Friday, Mardh 6, hosting Oklahoma Christian in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Dianne Baker Field. Live video and statistics will be available at www.twuathletics.com.
