DENTON, Texas -
Keely Chapman's 61st minute goal provided the Texas Woman's University soccer team (11-3-2, 8-3-0 Lone Star Conference) with its only offense of the afternoon, as the Pioneers dropped a 2-1 decision to Angelo State (12-2-2, 7-2-2) on Saturday at the Pioneer Soccer Park.
"Today was not one of our better performances," said head coach
Babak Abouzar. "Angelo played like they had something to play for and we came out on cruise control. They made us pay for it by scoring two goals. After that we settled down and Keely had a great goal with her left foot. Overall it was too little too late. Hopefully we've learned that we need to start out as the aggressor and good things can happen. We will regroup and get ready for a good Midwestern team."
Mariah Griffin put ASU on the board in the 31st minute and the Belles used a goal by Avery McNeme in the 57th minute to extend their advantage to 2-0.
Chapman pulled the Pioneers to within 2-1 in the 61st minute with her feed from
Alyssa Simien, and while the Pioneers had a potential game-tying opportunity in the 76th minute, ASU's Kira Miller made the stop to hold the Pioneers, and the Belles held on for the victory.
ASU held a 10-3 advantage in shots with a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. ASU also held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks. TWU keeper
Alex Jacinto made three saves.
TWU takes to the road on Wednesday, Nov. 3, traveling to Wichita Falls, Texas for a 5 p.m. matchup against Midwestern State.
