PIONEERS FALL TO ENMU IN FINAL MATCH OF 2021

PORTALES, New Mexico (Nov. 13, 2021) – For the eleventh time this season, Bailey Wozniak recorded more than 25 assists, with 29 on Saturday, but Texas Woman's University lost their final match of the 2021 season to Eastern New Mexico University 3-0.

TWU (10-18, 5-12 Lone Star Conference) attacked more than Eastern New Mexico (7-18, 7-10), finishing the match with 101 to the Greyhounds 95. The difference in the match proved to be the error differential—the Pioneers were plagued by 23 errors, while the Greyhounds had 12.

Addison Mulroney lead the way for TWU with 11 kills, 27 total attacks, and eight digs. Trixie Oche also played a great match for the Pioneers hitting .316 on 19 attacks and added five blocks.

"We gave ourselves opportunities and just missed on converting them," TWU head coach Jeff Huebner said. "I thought Trixie Oche did a great job, especially in the third set to work to get us back in the game."

Serving proved to be a bright spot for the Pioneers, as five different players recorded aces in the match. Mulroney lead the way for TWU with two. Wozniak, Sydney Stroh, Taylor Skrzycki, and Yanely Pabon added one ace each.

In the first set, the Pioneers jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, before trading points for the remainder of action. TWU had a chance to close the set with a 24-20 lead late, but Eastern New Mexico mounted a quick comeback, tying the set 24-24. The Pioneers responded and tied the set again 25-25, but did not gain another point, dropping the first 25-27.

TWU responded in the second set, scoring the first two points, before falling 18-25.

The third set proved to be a similar story. The Pioneers struggled to find their footing and lost the third 18-25.

With the loss on Saturday, TWU saw their 2021 season come to end. The Pioneers closed the season with 1,141 kills, 970 assists, 162 aces and 194 blocks. Oche led all Pioneers with 168 kills. Wozniack was atop the leader board in assists with 467 and the ace leader with 40.

"We are thankful for a season of learning and development, Huebner said. "Our fans have been terrific on the road and at home, keeping Kitty Magee Arena the best place to compete."

The Pioneers will graduate three seniors following the culmination of this season: Isabel Vega Calderon, Tylar Roberson, and Elizabeth Ugbaja.

"I am so proud of our seniors," Huebner said. "They have been leaders in tough conversations on and off the court, phenomenal students, committed to community service and avid attendees for all TWU Athletic events. They are true Pioneers."
