DALLAS, Texas - The Texas Woman's University soccer team (3-2-0, 3-1-0 Lone Star Conference) was unable to slow the offensive firepower of No. 1 Dallas Baptist (10-0-1, 5-0-1), dropping a 3-0 matchup to the top-ranked Patriots on Wednesday night.
The Pioneers had an opportunity in the opening minute of the game when
Haley Ward fired a shot on goal, but the Patriots came up with the save and notched their first goal of the evening in the 10th minute, and carried the 1-0 advantage into the second half. DBU added a pair of goals in the opening minutes of the second half, and while the Pioneers were able to manage three more shots on goal, in the 57th, 60th, and 87th minutes, the Patriots came up with the stop on each. Ward and
Kaylee Rekieta both were responsible for two shots on goal.
The Patriots' high-powered offensive attack resulted in a 21-5 shots advantage, with an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal. The TWU tandem of
Bailey Heffernon and
Sarah Campbell combined for six saves.
The Pioneers will open Lone Star Conference championship play this coming Saturday as the No. 7 seed and will travel to West Texas A&M on Saturday, April 3 for an 8 p.m. opening-round matchup with the Lady Buffs.
The winner of the TWU/WTAMU game will face off against the winner of the Texas A&M-Commerce/Oklahoma Christian game on Tuesday, April 6, with the tournament semifinals to be played on Saturday, April 10 and the LSC Championship game scheduled for Tuesday, April 13.
