PIONEERS SWEEP DAY TWO OF DRURY INVITE

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Kaia Saylor turned in a 23-kill afternoon, while Elizabeth Ugbaja added 13 as the Texas Woman's University volleyball team (2-2) swept to a pair of victories on the final day of the Drury Invitational, downing LeMoyne-Owen (0-3) by the score of 3-0 and Missouri Southern (0-3) by the score of 3-1.

"Our athletes really committed themselves to improvement whether that be set by set or match by match, and so obviously yesterday didn't go the way we wanted it to, but today we had a different approach," said head coach Jeff Huebner. "I was very proud of our leadership, our seniors did a really great job of talking with the team and our younger players did a good job of applying the advice to their game."

"I'm glad that we got this split out of it, and it bodes very well for our future because we are in the right places at the right time to continue to grow."

The Pioneers turned in a dominant performance in the opener against LeMoyne-Owen, winning by set scores of 25-15, 25-15, and 25-12. Trixie Oche turned in an eight-kill performance to lead TWU, hitting .727 for the match. Ugbaja hit .417 with six kills as well, while Sydney Stroh led the Pioneers with 14 digs, and Lizzy Reed dished out a team-high 18 assists.

The Pioneers were led by Reed's five aces, as TWU outaced LeMoyne-Owen 13-1 for the match while outhitting the Magicians .325 to .108.

In the finale, the Pioneers rallied after losing the opening set 25-18 to pick up 25-22, 25-18, and 25-23 wins to claim a 3-1 victory. Saylor led TWU with 16 kills, while Ugbaja and Tylar Roberson both hit double figures in kills with 11 and 10, respectively.

Reed dished out a team-high 29 assists while Taylor Skrzycki added 20. Stroh had 19 digs, Roberson added 11 to earn a double-double for the evening.

The Pioneers will return to action on Friday and Saturday of this week, hosting the Denton Volleyfest inside Kitty Magee Arena.

A full schedule of the Denton Volleyfest will be posted on twuathletics.com on Tuesday.
