Wichita Falls, Texas (Oct. 19, 2022) – Texas Woman's (12-11, 3-8) volleyball fell to Midwestern State (5-18, 3-8) after a tight five set battle Wednesday night.

In the opening of the first set, the Mustangs went on an eight-point run, making it difficult for the Pioneers to close the gap. The Mustangs held the Pioneers to a 15-point stint to end the set 25-15.

The Pioneers powered through the Mustangs in set two, after scoring six straight points to lead the remainder of the set. The Pioneers closed out set two 25-23.

After exchanging several points, the Pioneers found their momentum in the third set, and persevered to close the set 27-25.Â

Set four was a decisive set for the Pioneers. After a six-point come back, the Pioneers were stifled by the Mustangs, 26-24, to close set four.

The Pioneers continued to rally in the fifth set but found themselves trailing the Mustangs. In a close five set battle, the Mustangs took set five 15-13.

Offensively, the Pioneers totaled 57 kills for the night. Leading the Pioneers in kills was
Tori Woods with 14 kills, followed by
Trixie Oche, who registered nine kills. A season high of ten kills was recorded for
Lexi Williams.

From the net,
Kiya Yeoman cashed in six blocks to lead the match.
Luna Van Baars totaled four blocks, followed by Oche with three blocks.

On the offensive front,
Erin Jones and
Kiana Reed both registered 20 assists.
Lizzy Reed chipped in with six assists for the match.

The Pioneers are set for their home match in Kitty Magee Arena on Saturday, Oct. 22 at noon against Western New Mexico (2-20, 0-10).
