DENTON, Texas (October 25, 2022) – In their final home game of the regular season, the Texas Woman's soccer team fell to Midwestern State, 5-0.
On a chilly night at Pioneer Soccer Park, TWU (1-9-6, 1-5-5) conceded five goals to MSU (7-8-1, 4-6-1).
The Pioneers recorded seven shots in the first half and seven shots in the second half, while five of their 14 shots were put on frame.
The five shots on frame came from five different TWU players:
Abby Daniels,
Dylann Vollaro,
Sierra McCormick,
Kayla Labra and
Alyssa Valdez.
TWU also recorded five corner kick opportunities on the night, pushing the offensive attack to get looks at the net.
Midwestern State started off the scoring early off a header 40 seconds into the match. The Mustangs would score two more before the halftime buzzer sounded, at the 13th minute and the 41st minute.
While the Pioneers worked to turn the tides in the second half, the Mustangs scored in the 62nd minute and the 86th minute. The final goal came off a free kick service to the box and a completed header.
Freshman
Kailey Wehrmann, in her second career start, finished the match with five saves.
"Tonight's performance was very frustrating," TWU Head Coach
Babak Abouzar said. "We lacked a sense of urgency, and MSU made us pay for it– that's not indicative of who we are. We want to finish the season on a high note, and we'll look to do that against St. Edward's on Friday."
TWU will look to earn a result in their final match of the regular season on Friday, Oct. 28. The Pioneers will go on the road to Austin, Texas to face St. Edward's at 4 p.m.
