DENTON, Texas (Oct. 8, 2022) - It was a stalemate Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Soccer Park, as the Texas Women's soccer team (1-7-4, 1-3-3) tied with West Texas A&M (9-1-2, 3-1-2) 0-0.
 
The Pioneers attacked the Lady Buffs defensively, recording eight saves throughout the match. Although West Texas A&M registered 22 shots in the match, only eight were on frame, shutting out the competition. 
 
However, the Pioneers wrestled with the offensive attacks, recording five shots with only two on frame. 
 
An early shot in the first half by Dylann Vollaro to the bottom center of the goal, saved by Reagan Heelan for the Lady Buffs, would set the pace for the Pioneers. 
 
West Texas A&M sent off several shots in the first half, only to be saved by Morgan Sherman. Sherman ended the match untouched after recording eight saves. This season Sherman totals 59 saves for the Pioneers. 
 
"I'm proud of how our team battled against a top 25 team," said Head Soccer Coach Babak Abouzar. "We had a game plan going into this game, and we stuck with it and executed well. Our backline played well today. Morgan came up with some big time saves to keep us in the game. We must continue to work on our execution in and around the box." 
 
Going into the second half, Zayda Henderson attempted to score, but led the Pioneers into a corner kick, setting up Bri Luna for a shot into the top right corner, going wide.
 
Attempting to score in the second half, the Lady Buffs hit 13 shots, while the Pioneers made four attempts at scoring. 
 
The Pioneers are set for their Faculty and Staff Appreciation home match against UT Tyler on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.
