CANYON, Texas - The Texas Woman's University softball team (9-26) dropped both ends of a Lone Star Conference doubleheader at West Texas A&M (25-12), falling 4-0 in the opener and 10-4 in the nightcap.
WTAMU hurler Heidi Votherms was perfect in the opener, fanning six in seven innings of work.
Jalee McDonald took the loss for TWU, allowing four runs, one earned, on five hits in 5.1 innings of work.
In the nightcap, after the Lady Buffs took a second-inning 1-0 advantage, TWU clawed ahead in the top of the third, scoring a pair of runs on an error.
However, WT answered with seven in the bottom of the frame, and while the Pioneers were able to add runs in the fourth and fifth innings on singles by
Nya Brown and
Alexys Ginegaw, TWU could get no closer as the Lady Buffs earned the sweep.
Paige Tamayo, Jules Males, and
Nya Brown all had two hits apiece in the loss.
Kelsie Briggs took the loss after surrendering eight runs, six earned, in 2.2 innings of work.
TWU returns to action Wednesday, April 13, hosting Oklahoma Baptist in a non-conference matchup at Dianne Baker Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
