LAREDO, Texas (Jan. 13, 2023) – After a smooth 29-point over Texas A&M – Kingsville on Thursday night, the Texas Woman's basketball team travels to Texas A&M International on Saturday, Jan. 14.
TWU (14-1, 9-0) will meet TAMIU (11-6, 4-5), who was recently ranked No. 8 in the most recent D2SIDA South Central Regional Poll, at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
While the Pioneers continued their 12-game win streak on Thursday night, the Dustdevils lost their matchup on Thursday night with UT Tyler, 77-69. Their loss to UT Tyler marked the second loss in a row for the Dustdevils, as they also fell to Arkansas – Fort Smith on Jan. 7, 57-53.
Last season, TWU traveled to Laredo and lost to TAMIU 74-73.
Ashley Ingram led the Pioneers with 18 points in the loss, and
Brielle Woods added 15 points.
TWU will look to rewrite last year's story and record a win in Laredo for the first time in program history. The Pioneers have only played in Laredo one time prior to the 2021-22 season, losing in 2020 on the road, 62-57.

SCOUTING THE DUSTDEVILS
- SCORING LEADERS: The Dustdevils are led by junior No. 44 Rai Brown. Brown currently averages 19.1 per game. Brown has started all 17 games for TAMIU. She currently averages a field goal percentage of .593. The Dustdevils second leading scorer is No. 11 junior Emily Swiercz, who averages 11.6 point per game. She shoots .380 from the field and .326 from three.
- STAT COMPARISON: The Pioneers currently rank No. 4 in the Lone Star Conference in offense, averaging 71 points per game. On the other side, TAMIU ranks No. 3 in defense, holding their opponents to an average of 58.7 points per game. Additionally, the Dustdevils rank No. 2 in steals per game with 11.88. TWU ranks No. 3 in the conference in team field goal percentage (.432), while TAMIU sits narrowly ahead of the Pioneers with a .434 per game. The Dustdevils also rank No. 1 in the LSC in assists with 16.35 per game.
- A LOOK AT THE LOSSES: TAMIU only had five players score in their most recent loss to UT Tyler. Despite the low number of offensive threats, the Dustdevils were led by Meli Hornedo with 26 points and Barbara Turkalj with 23 points. The Dustdevils also only grabbed 20 rebounds. Additionally, in their loss to UAFS, the Dustdevils went 3-23 from the three point line. Defense and rebounding will be key for the Pioneers on Saturday in Laredo.
