DENTON, Texas (Nov. 11, 2023) – The Texas Woman's basketball team started their home opening weekend last night with a win over Western Colorado. The Pioneers look to keep the winning streak going on Saturday afternoon against MSU Denver.

TWU (4-0) will meet MSUD (0-1) at 4 p.m. in KMA in their final game of the Conference Challenge.

While the Pioneers have played four games already on the season, the Roadrunners opened their season last night with a loss to Angelo State in the Conference Challenge, 64-39.

TWU will look to extend their winning streak to five games to start the 2023-24 season.

HOME SWEET HOME LET'S RUN IT BACK
  • DEFENSE: Yesterday against Angelo State, MSUD was held to 10 or less points in three quarters. They shot 30% from the field and 7.1% from the three point line. In their win, TWU held Western Colorado to shooting just 30.4% from the field and 16.7% from beyond the arc. The Pioneers forced 13 turnovers and grabbed six steals. The Roadrunners gave up 22 turnovers in their loss. TWU will look to maintain the defensive pressure from last night in today's matchup.
  • TOTAL TEAM EFFORT: Last night, nine Pioneers scored. Three Pioneers finished in double-digits, as Leila Patel had 20 points, Ashley Ingram had 16 points and Averee Kleinhans finished with 10 points. The bench scored a season high 19 points in the win. Everyone contributed last night to the Pioneers' win. TWU will look for the same contribution in today's game.
  • FREE POINTS: The Pioneers shot their highest percentage from the free throw line last night, shooting 94.4% from the charity stripe. TWU shot 18 free throws and made 17, as Western Colorado committed 20 personal fouls. In their game, MSUD committed just 10 personal fouls; nevertheless, focus at the free throw line will be key in today's game.
