PIONEERS SET FOR MONDAY AFTERNOON GAME AGAINST ST. EDWARD'S

AUSTIN, Texas (Feb. 6, 2023) – After a rescheduled game due to weather, the Texas Woman's basketball team is set to play a Monday afternoon game on the road against St. Edward's.

TWU (20-1, 15-0) meets St. Edward's (11-12, 7-8) for the second time this season and the first time in Austin since the 2019-20 season on Feb. 6 at 1 p.m.

In their most recent game, the Pioneers defeated St. Mary's, 52-45, on Saturday, Feb. 4. TWU held St. Mary's to the lowest score of any opponent they have faced this season; furthermore, the Pioneers fought for the win, scoring their lowest number of points this season.

St. Edward's most recently faced UT Tyler, and the Hilltoppers fell to the Patriots on a jumper with five seconds left on the clock, 71-69.

The two teams met earlier this season in Denton, Texas on Saturday, Jan. 7. The Pioneers defeated the Hilltoppers 64-53.

A LOOK AT THE HILLTOPPERS
  • LOOK BACK: TWU holds the all-time record advantage over the Hilltoppers, 8-5. The Pioneers have won the last three meetings, which have all been played in Denton. The Pioneers last played in Austin on Feb. 2, 2020, but TWU lost 85-62. TWU last won in Austin on Dec. 30, 2009, 80-79. The Pioneers and Hilltoppers have already met once this season. In the win, the Pioneers were led by Sadie Moyer with 19 points and Ashley Ingram with 15 points.
  • SCORING THREATS: In their close loss to UT Tyler, St. Edward's had four players score in double-figures: Morgan Gary, Lauren Catherman, Jayda Ruffus-Milner and Ronnie Cantu. The Hilltoppers shot 41.5% from the field, 39.1% from the three point line and 80% from the free throw line. They forced UT Tyler to commit 16 turnovers, which they scored 20 points off of. Gary leads the Hilltoppers overall in scoring, averaging 11.6 points per game.
  • KEYS TO THE GAME: The Pioneers will look to crash the glass against the Hilltoppers. In their loss to UT Tyler, St. Edward's outrebounded the Patriots 32-25. Points in the paint will be impactful as well, as the Hilltoppers gave up 26 points in the paint to the Patriots. Finally, high offensive production will be possible for the Pioneers, as the Hilltoppers allowed the Patriots to score 27 points in a single quarter.
