PIONEER SOFTBALL WINS LSC SERIES AFTER DOUBLE HEADER SPLIT AGAINST CAMERON

DENTON, Texas (March 4, 2023) – On game day Saturday, Texas Woman's (13-8, 7-5) softball splits the series 2-1 over Cameron (10-8, 7-5).
 
After leading the series with a win on Friday, March 3 to defeat the Aggies 4-1, the Pioneers turned around Saturday afternoon and dropped game two 2-0 but pulled out the series win in game three, 4-3.
 
Sunshine filled the sky as game two kicked off. In the first two innings the Aggies were quick to add a couple of runs to the scoreboard.
 
The Aggies held the Pioneers scoreless throughout game two and recorded three hits and one error to end the matchup.
 
In a special turn of events, the Pioneers entered the conversation in game three and battled back against the Aggies until the eighth inning.
 
At first, the Aggies held the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth inning but leave it to Alyssa LeBlanc (7-4) to hit one out of the park to get the Pioneers fired up in the bottom of the fourth.
 
It wasn't until the sixth inning, when the Pioneers responded to the Aggies as Ciana Rodriguez singled to third base and then hastily stole second to put the Pioneers in scoring position.
 
Heavy hitter LeBlanc stepped up to the plate and homered for a second time in game three; her seventh home run of the season and second RBI of the afternoon.
 
In a tied ball game both the Pioneers and the Aggies held on tight in the eighth inning. The Pioneers allowed the Aggies one hit and said no more.
 
The Pioneers closed game three as Ciana Rodriguez scored the final run with the help of an RBI from Delaney Boley with a double to left center.
 
On the mound for the Pioneers in game two was Janyssa Ramos (1-1) who pitched in two innings, and the remaining five innings were pitched by Jalee McDonald. Combined the Pioneers allowed nine hits, two runs, and one error in game two, with three strikeouts.
 
LeBlanc opened and closed all eight innings on the mound in game three and allowed nine hits, three runs, and one error, while striking out 10 Aggies in the process.
 
From the field, the Pioneers met their season high of 24 putouts, with Delaney Boley leading the Pioneers with ten putouts and Hannah Schnettler not far behind registering nine putouts in game three.
 
The Pioneers are headed to San Angelo, Texas March 7-8 to take on Angelo State for more Lone Star Conference action. First pitch goes off at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, followed by the double header on Wednesday, March 8 beginning at 1 p.m.
