PIONEERS PREPARE FOR FIRST MEETING WITH SUL ROSS STATE

ALPINE, Texas (Dec. 18, 2024) – For the first time in program history, the Texas Woman's basketball team will meet Sul Ross State on Thursday, Dec. 19.

TWU (10-1, 3-1) will travel to Alpine, Texas tomorrow night for an afternoon meeting with SRSU (2-5, 1-3) – first year LSC member.

Last night, the Pioneers defeated Western New Mexico on the road, 71-48, holding their opponent to under 50 points for the third straight game. On the other side, the Lobos fell to UT Tyler at home yesterday, 70-56.

Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Gallego Center.

ROAD WARRIORS HOLIDAY HOOPS
  • CRASH THE BOARDS: The Pioneers average 37.1 rebounds per game – outrebounding their opponent by an average of 6.1 rebounds per game. SRSU averages 29.6 rebounds per game. On average, they get outrebounded by their opponent by 9.7. Rebounding will be key in the Pioneers win tomorrow night.
  • TURNOVERS FOR DESSERT: TWU has been playing lock down defense. For two straight games, the Pioneers have forced their opponent to turn the ball over more than 20 times. Last game against WNMU, the Pioneers forced 23 turnovers for 25 Pioneer points. The Lobos average 12.4 turnovers per game, but they force 18 turnovers per game for 16 points. TWU will look to create turnovers and limit their own on Thursday afternoon.  
  • BIG THIRD QUARTER: In their loss to UT Tyler last night, the big difference in the game was the third quarter. Every quarter was a difference of one point, except for the third quarter. Out of halftime, UT Tyler outscored the Lobos 23-12. In their game against WNMU, the Pioneers strongest quarters were the first and second. They will look to start the game off strong and come out of halftime with energy to secure the win against SRSU.
