DENTON, Texas (March 16, 2024) – It's Semifinal Saturday in Denton, Texas. The Texas Woman's basketball team advanced to the 2024 NCAA Division II South Central Regional Semifinal Round for the second time in program history.

One seed - TWU (30-4) will face the five seed – Adams State (25-8) at 7:30 p.m. in Denton, Texas.

The Pioneers and Grizzlies have met just three times in program history – last in 2016 at a neutral site in Wichita Falls, Texas. TWU has won all three meetings against Adams State. The two teams have met once in Denton, Texas in 2006, and the Pioneers won the meeting 62-54.

Adams State will play in the South Central Regional Tournament for the second time in program history and first time since 2011. While it is also the second time for the Pioneers, they last advanced to the semifinal round in 2022.

SEMIFINAL SATURDAY

• FREE FREE THROWS: Yesterday, the Pioneers went to the free throw line 43 times and made 36 of those free throws, which proved to be a difference maker in the outcome of the game. TWU did a great job attacking the defense to get foul opportunities, which they utilized to stay connected when shots were not falling on the offensive end. In their win over UTPB, Adams State fouled 28 times and went to the free throw line 25 times and shot 60% from the charity stripe.
• SECOND CHANCE POINTS: Adams State gave up 23 second chance points to UTPB on Friday night. UTPB also out-rebounded Adams State 35-29. The Pioneers will look to take advantage of the offensive rebound opportunities and crash the boards on Saturday.
• HIGH SCORING: The Grizzlies scored 96 points last night, marking the 12th time they have scored 80 or more points in a game; nevertheless, Adams State averages 75.6 points per game. Throughout this season, the Pioneers have held high scoring opponents to under their average. TWU averages 72.6 points per game. The Pioneers have scored 80 or more points eight times this season. TWU on average holds their opponents to 61.1 points per game, while Adams State holds their opponents on average to 66.6 points per game.
