PIONEERS CLOSE SEASON AT LSC CHAMPIONSHIPS

CANYON, Texas (May 2, 2024) – The 2024 season came to a close today for the Texas Woman's softball team in the Lone Star Conference Championships.

After a historical run back to the LSC Tournament, returning for the first time since 2017, the No. 7 seed Pioneers fell in the opening round to the No. 10 seed Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds, 5-2.

TWU closes the season with a 25-29 overall record and 23-19 in LSC regular season play. The 23 wins in the LSC mark the most wins in conference play in program history for the Pioneers.

Additionally, Alyssa LeBlanc cemented herself in the TWU history books once again this season, closing her career at TWU with the most strikeouts in a career with 523, breaking Carly Case's (2008-10) record.

Against ENMU today, TWU recorded four hits for two runs. Callie Bailey, Lauryn Davies, Madison Altman and LeBlanc all recorded hits for the Pioneers. Furthermore, the two runs were scored by Bailey and LeBlanc.

In the top of the second inning, ENMU scored two runs, and the Pioneers could not find their momentum on offense to find the lead over the Greyhounds. ENMU would add one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth, recording seven hits in the game, to claim the victory.

TWU got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, after LeBlanc doubled to right center to bring Bailey home, who had opened the inning with a single to get on base. It marked LeBlanc's 12th double of the season and 27th RBI of the season.

The Pioneers would strike once more in the bottom of the sixth inning. Davies singled through the left side to bring home LeBlanc, who got on base after an ENMU error to open the inning. It marked Davies's 15th hit of the season and 14th RBI of the season.

Despite scoring the two runs, the Pioneers were unable to string together runs to overcome the deficit, falling 5-2.

LeBlanc (15-13) recorded the start in the circle for the Pioneers. She pitched five innings for TWU, throwing six strikeouts in the game. Allison Gonzalez came in and pitched in the top of the sixth and closed the game for the Pioneers, she gave up no hits over the two innings.

The Pioneers close the season with 25 wins , matching their win total from last season.
