DENTON, Texas (Jan. 8, 2024) – The Texas Woman's basketball returns home tomorrow for a meeting with St. Mary's.
No. 2 TWU (13-1, 6-1) will meet StMU (7-5, 3-3) for the first time this season.
Last week, TWU opened 2025 with wins against Cameron and Oklahoma Christian on the road. In the wins, the Pioneers held their opponents to an average of 50 points and a field goal percentage of 29%.
The Rattlers played at home last week. They fell to Texas A&M – Kingsville in a low-scoring contest, 50-46, on Jan. 3. Then, they defeated Texas A&M International on Jan. 5 in overtime, 76-71.
TWU and StMU will meet tomorrow in Kitty Magee Arena at 11 a.m.

- DEFENSE: The Pioneers are currently holding their opponents to scoring just 52.4 points per game, which ranks second in the Lone Star Conference and 10th in Division II. The Rattlers average 60.7 points per game with their lowest total points coming against Lubbock Christian on Dec. 12, when StMU scored just 43 points. They have been held under 50 points three times this season. TWU has held their opponents under 50 points six times on the season. From the field, StMU shoots 41%. The Pioneers rank third in the LSC and 18th in Division II in field goal percentage defense, holding their opponents to just 34.7% from the field on average.
- SECOND CHANCE POINTS: StMU ranks fifth in the LSC in team offensive rebounds, securing 11.4 per game. In their last win over TAMIU, they grabbed 14 offensive boards for 20 second points. The Pioneers will look to crash the boards and secure rebounds to limit the second chance opportunities of StMU. TWU ranks fifth in team defensive rebounds, averaging 27.1 per game.
- SHARE THE WEALTH: TWU ranks second in the LSC in assists per game with 14.79 per game. One key to the Pioneers' success is their ball movement and smart distribution on offense. Ashley Ingram ranks fourth in the LSC in assists, averaging 3.4 assists per game. Sharing the wealth will be key in the game tomorrow.
