TWU SOFTBALL SPLITS HOME SERIES WITH ST. MARY’S

DENTON, Texas (April 11, 2025) – Texas Woman's University split a Lone Star Conference doubleheader against St. Mary's University on Friday at Dianne Baker Field. The Pioneers (18-20, 14-18) secured a 5-3 win in game one before falling 10-2 in five innings in game two, as the Rattlers (22-23, 17-17) tallied 13 hits to even the series.

In game one, TWU jumped out to a 4-0 lead through three innings, highlighted by RBI hits from Trinity Perry and Hawwa Townsend, along with a Rattler error. Lauryn Davies added an RBI single in the fourth, giving the Pioneers a 5-2 cushion.Despite allowing a solo run in the sixth, TWU held on for the victory behind solid pitching from Randi Crawford and defense.

The Pioneers again struck first in game two, scoring in the third inning, but St. Mary's responded with a four-run fourth to seize momentum. The Rattlers added three more in the fifth to end the game early by run rule. Marissa Espinoza drove in both of TWU's runs in the loss.

Game 1 (TWU won 5-3):

  • The Pioneers kicked things off with an RBI double to left center by Madison Reid, scoring Ashley Allinger for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

  • In the third, TWU extended the lead to 4-0 behind RBIs from Trinity Perry and Hawwa Townsend, plus a run scored by Lauryn Davies.

  • After the Rattlers cut the lead to 4-2 in the fourth, Davies responded with an RBI single in the bottom half to push it to 5-2. Despite allowing one more run in the sixth, TWU held firm for the win.

TWU returns to Dianne Baker Field on Sunday, April 13, to host St. Edward's in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., with game two to follow at 3 p.m.
