PIONEERS DOMINATE EAST CENTRAL IN SEASON OPENER SHUTOUT

SEMINOLE, Okla. (Sept. 4, 2025) – The Texas Woman's soccer team opened its 2025 campaign with a dominant 4–0 road win over East Central on Thursday afternoon.

The Pioneers (1–0) avenged last season's opener loss to ECU (0–1) and delivered their largest margin of victory since a four-goal win over Southern Nazarene in 2023. TWU's aggressive offensive strategy overwhelmed the Tigers early, resulting in four goals on 21 shots, including 11 on target.

IMPACT PLAYERS

KEY MOMENTS

  • '6: After an early ECU attempt was denied by goalkeeper Amanda Farris, Oliveros capitalized on a counterattack to put the Pioneers ahead 1–0.

  • '7: Just a minute later, TWU capitalized again with back-to-back pressure. Giselle Gutierrez connected with Thaxton, who buried her first collegiate goal to make it 2–0.

  • '38: Arboleda extended the lead before halftime, finishing an assist from Bella Alfaro to give the Pioneers a commanding 3–0 advantage at the break.

  • '59: Following another strong defensive stand and a save by Faith Graves, Antovoni found the back of the net to record her first TWU goal and seal the 4–0 result.

  • The Pioneers' defense allowed just four second half shots and tallied four saves, preserving the clean sheet and capping a strong start to the 2025 season.

 FROM HEAD COACH BABAK ABOUZAR

"I'm very happy to start off the season with a 4-0 win," Abouzar said. "The team has worked hard on being more composed and clinical in the final third and that showed with the result today while also having four different goal scorers. As with any team this early in the season, there are things we still need to improve on, and we will. We have a quick turnaround for our next game, so we'll rest and recover."
