Hello Pioneer Fans!

Welcome back for another exciting week of gymnastics insight at TWU! My name is Alexa Brennan and I am junior finance major. I couldn’t be more excited about starting my third year here and competing with the team we have this year. I am so blessed to be here.

What a whirlwind week it has been! We have knocked off many of the goals that were given to us by the coaches, and are moving in the right direction. We have accomplished more than half of our goals!

We had a recruit with us this week from Florida. She was hosted by freshman Audrey Embree. As always, we love entertaining recruits and getting to know a potential Pioneer. She was able to attend cookie night on Friday night as we prepared cookies for skit night. We made many tasty treats and watched a movie. We were able to just relax and have fun.

This weekend was the University of North Texas’s homecoming weekend, which means the famous homecoming parade. As is tradition, we walked with Frenchy and we passed out posters and candy to our many fans. The freshmen wore the now infamous bright orange afros and gave everyone a laugh. Everyone enjoyed themselves. We then did a bit of tailgating before attending the UNT homecoming football game (pictured) against Troy University. In true Pioneer gymnastics fashion we had a lot of fun.

Sunday night was skit night and we were able to enjoy the cookies that we prepared on Friday. The freshmen went first and made fun of themselves as their first year here unfolds. The sophomores were next and created a game show that took us all back to the seniors’ freshman year. The juniors then gave us an insightful news update on all the happenings in TWU gymnastics. The seniors then did a delightful dance to the many different songs they encountered over their many years here. It was nice to sit around and just laugh at each other. It was a great break from the stress of getting ready for intra squad and the upcoming season.

Speaking of intra squad, we are now less than 30 practices away and everything is falling into place. There are passes being put on the floor and full beam routines being done. I could not be more excited about the possibilities of this year’s team. Everyone is looking so good. We have so much fun together and it is going to be a great year.

Congratulations to Kristie Costa as this week’s Pioneer of the Week. Way to go Kristie!

Check back next week for more updates on our preparations for the upcoming meet season and many other exciting functions we have. Go Pioneers!
