Dear TWU Pioneer fans,

My name is Kelsey Nixon and I am a senior Nutrition major/Kinesiology minor. It is an honor for me to be on such a great team. I am happy to keep our fans updated on our journey this year.

The year is already off to a great start. As school begins to pick up, it is important we stay on our toes. Juggling the constraints of school, gym, and extracurricular activities is never easy. There is a constant battle we must win in order to reach our academic goals.

First official practice was Friday… The journey begins…

As a senior, I believe this season is going to be full of some bittersweet moments. The past three years have been more then amazing. I have learned the ways of the TWU gymnastics team through traditions and the awesome leaders we have had in the past. Being a TWU gymnast is more than just an experience, it is a lifestyle we must learn and live. This year the seniors decided to start a new tradition. Each senior received a crown (see photo). The crowns will be passed on to the upcoming seniors each year.

On a lighter note, we did manage to dodge Hurricane Ike’s winds on Saturday morning for another one of our conditioning practices. We had three miles to run followed by the soccer field sprints and hill climbs where we have learned tough love. After sprints we were introduced to our new plyometrics trainer, an hour long of nothing but lower body stretch, cardio, and endurance training. We are going to have some cut abs and rock hard legs after this September, that’s for sure.

That’s about it for this week. Stay tuned for the next Pioneer Post.
