Hey Pioneer Fans!

I am Kelsey Nixon a senior from Marietta, Georgia, with another update on the Pioneer gymnastics team’s progress.

The week started off last Sunday with a practice intra-squad meet where we put our routines together as a whole to perform and get out some of the competitive nerves. Monday we had a day focusing mainly on skills and drills that needed special attention. Tuesday, “the BIG day”, we had a little team challenge. The challenge was between the classes. Each class had to complete a certain number of routines on each event and record individual hits and misses in order to determine the winner. After all of the data was recorded and calculations were completed using Lisa’s “secret formula,” the results determined the winner. The winning class was the youthful rookies followed by the experienced seniors then came the sophomores, and last, but definitely not least, the sophomores.

After our team challenge we had our traditional circle of thankfulness. Each gymnast, coach, and trainer shared what he or she is thankful for. This year we made it about halfway through the circle before the tears started to flow. These traditions let us show how much we really mean to each other.

I know that I am extremely thankful I have gotten the opportunity to spend the last three and a half years of my life with these wonderful girls and coaches. Getting the opportunity to train and compete as a college gymnast is definitely an unforgettable experience and sometimes I think we forget how lucky we really are.

The rest of the week we were able to take some time off for Thanksgiving with some much needed rest, delicious food, shopping, and time with friends and family.

Have a great week and don’t forget to visit next week for the next Pioneer update.

Senior,

Kelsey Nixon
