Welcome Back, Pioneer Fans!

This week was very exciting and certainly a step in the right direction for the TWU Pioneers! We started off the week when we returned home from Colorado after competing in two meets. During our visit to Colorado we hit a bump in the road. But after refocusing and rededicating ourselves we really shined at our home meet this past Friday night against North Carolina State, Centenary College, and Wisconsin-Whitewater. We have been working so hard all season, and it finally clicked for us that night. I feel we walked away from the meet with a new sense of confidence and determination; we earned our highest score of the season – a 193.6! We were very proud of ourselves but we also know we can do that much better.

Before the meet Coach gave us an incentive (and if you are a TWU alumni you know how amazing incentives can be!) For every stick at the meet and for every 9.7 on floor we were going to get 5 minutes off of practice on Sunday. We had the potential of getting out of practice two whole hours early! We didn’t quite get two hours but we were able to shave 40 minutes off of our Sunday practice, an exciting accomplishment - leaving more room for rest and homework!

At the meet there were a lot of great things that happened. Sophomore Kristie Costa debuted a new vault; freshman Rashonda Cannie hit all four of her routines setting a new personal and team record for all-around; the beam team hit seven for seven, and so did bars! Also sophomore Caroline Hilpisch, Kristie Costa, and Rashonda Cannie all earned personal bests on beam, and freshman Chaynade Knowles earned a personal best on floor, another huge improvement for the Pioneers.

Every event Friday night looked aggressive and confident. I feel those traits really help us excel as a team. We have been working extremely hard to achieve our goals for the season and we only have two more regular season meets so wish us luck as we continue to build and accomplish great things!!

Our next meet is Friday, March 6th at Oklahoma with Illinois State at 7:00 pm. We hope to see you there supporting your TWU Pioneers!
