Hey Pioneer Fans!!
Welcome to the beginning of another great year. My name is Kelsey Nixon. I am a fifth year senior ready for a year full of exciting and memorable experiences.
So far the year has been nothing short of busy. We started off with getting the new freshmen all moved in and settled into their new dorm rooms. It’s always nice to have more people are around to help carry their belongings up 24 stories of the Guinn Hall dorms. Finding a place on the elevators is always a challenge, but we handled it like pros.
After getting the rookies moved in, it was time to make the long drive out to Coach’s NEW house for the welcome back BBQ. The BBQ is a way for friends and family to welcome back the new team and get to know the new rookies. This year we are blessed with a big rookie class. It is always fun getting to know each one of their individual personalities and quirky habits.
Throughout the week we went to a variety of school events. There was the block party, where we met our fellow students, the alumni soccer game, and our athletic orientation. Athletic orientation was a little different this year. Instead of sitting through hours of lectures we got to help out with an organization called Hearts for Homes. The organization finds houses with disabled homeowners and helps them do housework, yard work, paint, and fix up the house. Helping out the community helps us give back and at the same time gives us an opportunity to get to know the other athletes outside of school or athletic environment.
The first week of school marks the start of this team’s journey. Monday was our first day of classes. It is nice to get back into a schedule with school and gym. Monday allowed us to get into the groove of things just before the start of our actual preseason conditioning. First off is the mile and a half run test. This test is to evaluate how much we actually trained over the summer. We had well over half pass with the aged seniors in the lead. There are a few that need another try, but I am sure with a little bit of help with pacing we will get everyone to pass!
Well I think that is about all I have for this week stay tuned for the next pioneer post!
Go Pioneers!
