Hi, my name is Alexa Brennan and I a senior this year. I am a finance major here at Texas Woman’s University. I couldn’t be more excited for the year ahead and for the team that we have this year. It is a big year and we all have big expectations. I want to see this team bring home its tenth national title, here on our home turf. This is a very attainable goal and I cannot wait to make it happen with this team. Let’s make it 10 in 10!
We have had a busy week here as a team. We had our mile and a half run test in which the seniors swept first, second and third place. We had Kelsey Nixon coming in at first, myself second and Keri Miller coming in third. Also passing the test were, Marcella Fallon, Kristin Misheck, Amy Winzecura, and Sarah Grunert. Way to go ladies!
We started school as well and started to get into the schedule of working out and keeping up with our academics as well. We have conditioning and open gyms, but still have not started official practice. Open gym is going very well and we already have some big skills being thrown. We already have flight being done on beam and doubles being thrown on floor. All look really good, too! Sarah Grunert has the title of first release move to be done on bars as well. She threw a tchochev yesterday and caught in! Way to go Sarah, very impressive.
This time of year is the most important time as we are building our foundation of strength and conditioning for the long season ahead. I am very impressed with the work ethic I have seen so far and all the hard work being put in. This is especially true of our UNT workout we had on Friday morning. We had to run the mile and a half run test again and Krysten Edwards joined the mile and a half run test club. We worked really hard on Friday and the rookies got their first taste of UNT. They were a little scared, but I think that they survived. They got to experience sprints on the field and everyone’s favorite stadiums! We were all exhausted at the end, but a job well done and everyone made it through with a positive attitude.
The team is looking good and the freshmen are fitting in well. We are all getting to know each other and build friendships. It is important that we bond together this month to help everyone get through the conditioning on top and ready to go. It has only been a week of conditioning and I already excited about the potential of this team. I cannot wait to see what happens when official practice starts!
Thank you for all the support of the TWU gymnastics team, we could not do it without the fans. Keep looking out for more updates! Go Pioneers! 1-2-3 CHOJ!
