Welcome back and Happy New Year, Pioneer Gymnastics Fans!
I hope you all had happy holidays. I am Kelsey Nixon, coming back to you with the latest update on the TWU Pioneer gymnasts.
It has been a while since the last Pioneer Post. As most of you are aware we did get Christmas off to spend with friends and family. We returned from our Christmas break on the 28th of December ready for one of the most important parts of our season, Kamp Kudlac! Two-a-days may seem unnecessary by some. There is more to this part of the season than many may think. Two-a-days are more than just extremely long hours in the gym and grueling practices. It is also a time where the team really gets to bond because not one of us can do this alone. It really makes you understand the meaning of team; each one of us feeds off of the other.
This year so far, we have really enjoyed ourselves, or at least made the best with what we are given. In order to keep a smile on faces in the gym we have had themes for each practice. The ideas for each theme have come mainly from the coaches. So far the themes have consisted of: Tacky/Clash Day, Glitter Day, Pink Day, and Brightest Lipstick Day. My favorite so far was Tacky/Clash day. I think we all voted and coach won by far. His outfit consisted of Hawaiian shorts with lovely multicolored flowers and a tie-dye shirt that was so bright we had to put our sunglasses on.
Aside from all the “fun” we have been having, there have been some amazing accomplishments in the gym. We are putting together some lineups and putting people in pressure situations. So far we have done top 8 on all four events and I think the team is looking good. This coming week we will be having a team retreat for some more team bonding and then we will be heading to the University of Kentucky for our first meet of the 2010 season!
Stayed tuned for next week’s post to hear how our meet goes. See you soon!
