March 1, 2010 from senior Kelsey Nixon

Welcome back Pioneer fans,

It is me, Kelsey Nixon, coming back to you with this past week’s update on our journey through the 2010 season.

From Low to High
“God allows us to experience the low points of life in order to teach us lessons we could not learn in any other way. The way we learn those lessons is not to deny the feelings but to find the meanings underlying them.”
?Stanley Lindquist

This team has used the tougher competitions as motivation and a way to learn from our mistakes. I would say this past week in the gym has been one of the more focused weeks. We really worked on less thinking and letting our bodies do the work. “Trusting it” is key to our performance at this point. Gymnastics is 10% physical and 90% mental. Coach had a great analogy. He told us to focus on a clear bubble. In the cartoons in the newspapers you will see what the characters are thinking or saying in their bubble. He wanted us to focus on less talk and more action/focus. A clear bubble is what someone should see if our bubbles were exposed. After last week’s competition at Ball State we had an increased desire and motivation to get in the gym and work hard. Hit after hit in the gym led to this weekend’s highest scoring meet. We reached 48.3 or higher on each event. We hit six for six on beam and scored one of our highest event scores on vault. Next weekend we have a weekend of rest. We are all looking forward to the opportunity to work on the details and apply them when we go to California for our next two away meets.

I think this team has potential to finish up the season on a very good note and the hard work and determination is going to allow us to reach our goals. Stay posted for next week’s update.

Respectfully,

Kelsey Nixon
